Public Relations
“The positive public image of fire fighters is crucial to building support for our goals: keeping our members safe, increasing staffing, protecting the homeland, and improving wages and benefits.”

Harold A. Schaitberger

This year's boot drive has come to a close.

After five days at three locations, we were able to raise $12,824 for the MDA.

Congratulations to our members for the achievement and a major thank you to our public who pitched in.

Join the Kitsap community for a free, fun-filled day for kids and families on June 7, 2014 at Presidents Hall at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Kids’ Day, fire and life safety event starts with a blast at 10:00 AM and runs until 2:30 PM.

This fun filled event is bursting with exciting and educational activities. Kids and families are invited to mingle with firefighters, law enforcement, search and rescue, Navy personnel, and community volunteers while picking up tips and resources about ways to promote health and safety. To celebrate the 29th anniversary of Kids’ Day, CKFR and the Professional Fire Fighters of Kitsap County, IAFF Local 2819 are stepping up to teach fire safety and treat kids to fun in a bounce house.

Kids’ Day originated in 1985 with Kitsap County Fire District 15 and was facilitated at Station 41. David Olsen (who recently retired) was the mastermind behind Kids Day. To accommodate the thousands of visitors to Kids’ Day, the event moved to the Kitsap County Fairgrounds where it is still going strong as a well-established community mainstay.

If you're interested in having a booth, or helping to sponsor the event, please call Ileana LiMarzi at 360-447-3603 or email her at ilimarzi@ckfr.org

2011 Update:

$15,000 raised for the MDA!!!

THANK YOU to all the people who helped our firefighters with this years "Fill the Boot" drive. From Kingston to Poulsbo to Silverdale people's generosity was amazing. With all that support, IAFF L-2819 was able to raise just over $15,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

A special thanks to JD Tollefson, Enzio Foresta, Josh Cooper, and Dave Mussleman for coordinating this years effort.

2819 has been a proud participant in MDA fund raising since 1996. Our members helping with Fill-the-Boot, MDA Lock-up, and MDA Summer Camp have raised thousands of dollars in the name of medical research aimed at eradicating muscular dystrophy. Our efforts also go toward the purchasing of braces and wheel chairs as well as sponsoring registration at summer camps for kids living with MD. These summer camps provide them fun and necessary distraction from their daily challenges

In case you've ever wondered how our proud union began this tradition, our affiliate Seattle FD Local 27 has an article explaining it all.

In 2011, Local 2819 will be conducting Fill-the-Boot drives on six different days held at three locations. Check out photos of last year's drive HERE.

Just like last year we  have appointed one member from each department; Brothers Cooper, Musselman, and Foresta, to be your respective MDA Bargaining Unit representatives. They are assisting with coordinating and notifying the membership in an effort to have a balanced, strong turnout for this event.

Please look at the dates in the calendar on the Home page and consider attending at least one of the days. You can E-mail any one of the BU reps with the day or days you can help with. If you forget, don't worry... they will be contacting you before too long.

This year's Oktoberfest is over and by all reports a total success. Once again, Local 2819 would like to thank Scott and Steve for their support of our benevolent fund. Below are pictures of our plaque presentation to them. You may have guessed that Brother Fassett is responsible for the leather work.

Thank you to all who attended the event and represented Local 2819 during the three days.

You are invited!

Our friends at Silver City Brewery host a local Oktoberfest every year. The celebration includes over-indulgence of their famous Oktoberfest beer and Uli's Famous Bratwurst. Their German potato salad isn't too bad either.

Times are:
September 9, 3:00 - 10:00pm
September 10, 11:00am - 11:00pm
September 11, 11:00am - 11:00pm

Owners Scott and Steve Houmes have partnered with our local for several years and generously donate year after year all their profits during the three day event to our benevolent fund. This event has become our biggest revenue generator  for our fund.

Our benevolent fund has been used to help several members within our family over the last year and we hope to continue this with your support.

This year, we will be selling commemorative beer glasses with a cool graphic on it. (Not necessarily the graphic on the right.) On September 11,  tickets to our 2010 Father Daughter Dance  (another benevolent fund event) will be sold.

We will be needing help from our membership just like years' past to assist with the various activities scheduled. Don't miss out on an opportunity to help out a great cause and to enjoy delicious beer. Contact John Tollefson for more info.

July 2010 UPDATE

On October 2, 2009, we held our first Father Daughter Dance at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds President's Hall. This event was open to the public and to daughters of all ages.

Cake, beverages, and snacks were provided and the girls received a long stem rose after the event. Photography was handled by Sparrow Portraits and a 4x6 of the couples was included in the admittance fee.

We enjoyed having 220 attendees this time around and hope to have even more next time.

Our next dance will be September 24, 2010 at the Presidents Hall from 6:00pm - 9:00pm.

Tickets will be for sale in September at the dance's website:

www.firefightersdance.org

Proceeds of the event go to our Benevolent Fund.
