Public Relations

“The positive public image of fire fighters is crucial to building support for our goals: keeping our members safe, increasing staffing, protecting the homeland, and improving wages and benefits.”

Harold A. Schaitberger

Welcome to Local 2819’s Public Relations Page.

The Public Relations Coordinator is responsible for developing informative programs and methods to establish a favorable relationship with the public, while promoting the goals and objectives of the Professional Firefighters of Kitsap County by working with a variety of groups and institutions that interact with our organization. Further, it is also PR’s intention to continue to strengthen the fellowship and build unity in the six bargaining units within our local.

This year is full of activities for our membership. Please check the events calendar for upcoming events. I will keep the calendar as up to date as possible, for all the bargaining units. Thanks to Brother Musselman from Poulsbo and Brother Abrigo fromNorth Kitsap for assisting in PR for their respective bargaining units.

Sincerely,

John D Tollefson

MDA Fill the Boot
Updated On: Aug 15, 2010 (12:48:00) PRINT/SAVE Article Email Article to FriendEMAIL Article

2819 has been a proud participant in MDA fund raising since 1996. Our members helping with Fill-the-Boot, MDA Lock-up, and MDA Summer Camp have raised thousands of dollars in the name of medical research aimed at eradicating muscular dystrophy. Our efforts also go toward
the purchasing of braces and wheel chairs as well as sponsoring registration at summer camps for kids living with MD. These summer camps provide them fun and necessary distraction from their daily challenges

In case you've ever wondered how our proud union began this tradition, our affiliate Seattle FD Local 27 has an article explaining it all.

In 2010, Local 2819 will be conducting Fill-the-Boot drives on six different days held at three locations.  UPDATE! Check out photos of the first day HERE.

This year we  have appointed one member from each department; Brothers Cooper, Musselman, and Foresta, to be your respective MDA Bargaining Unit representatives. They are assisting with coordinating and notifying the membership in an effort to have a balanced, strong turnout for this event.

We've also added one more day in Kingston to help us top last year's total.  Please look at the dates in the Upcoming Events page and consider attending at least one of the days. You can E-mail any one of the BU reps with the day or days you can help with. If you forget, don't worry... they will be contacting you before too long.
